Bad Ischl is a member of the co-operation "Small Historic Towns in Austria".
There are currently 16 towns throughout Austria that are partners in this advertising co-operation. In order to be accepted into this community, numerous criteria must be met.
Small historic towns are towns with a municipal charter that are home to a maximum of 45,000 inhabitants. They have a historic and cohesive townscape, are embedded in special natural landscapes and have numerous listed sights, which are professionally visualised and experienced by visitors on regular guided tours with certified guides. Craft businesses, which can be experienced at close quarters, are just as much of an attraction as a regular weekly market, a well-kept gastronomy and an individual shopping offer - in the city centre mainly by owner-managed businesses. Varied, high-quality events, tangible tourist attractions and an active cultural programme round off the repertoire of the Small Historic Towns.
You can find all the towns at a glance at www.khs.info
Not every small historic town is automatically included in the KHS network. To be included, certain requirements must be met.
The other cities in the KHS network are also worth exploring.
