Multi-activity Adventure Week in the Dachstein Salzkammergut region

General information:

- walking and cycling tours are self-guided with detailed maps and route descriptions being provided. All other activities are carried out in company of a professional instructor.
- swimming skills are a prerequisite for all activities on water
- to enjoy the climbing and the time in the caves you should have a good head for heights and you should not suffer from claustrophobia
- all activities are suitable for children of the age of 8 or older
- special equipment is provided for all activities. Basic outdoor equipment like good walking shoes, rucksack, rain and sun protection, functional clothing and also a warmer jacket or pullover (especially important for the caves) are necessary to enjoy your trip.

itinerary

1st day: Individual arrival in Bad Goisern.
You will receive your travel documents at your accommodation
Overnight stay in Bad Goisern.

2nd day: Introductory cycling tour: Lake Hallstättersee
~ 30 km, difference in altitude á 357 m / â 357 m
You cycle along the eastern shore of the Lake to Obertraun. Here you can visit the Dachstein Adventure World with its giant ice caves and spectacular cable car. The cycling trail continues to Hallstatt, charming and historic lake-side village and UNESCO World Heritage site. From here it is only a short ride back to your hotel.

3rd day: Canoeing on Lake Hallstättersee (approx. 4h)
The  lakes  of  the  Salzkammergut,  embedded  in  the  dramatic  Alpine  landscape,  are predestined for all sorts of water sports activities. After a short introduction you head out on the calm lake and explore the most beautiful parts of the lake and its shore.

4th day: Climbing Workshop for beginners in climbing hall Bad Ischl (approx. 3-4h)
Playful introduction in the world of sport climbing. Assistance will be provided by a qualified trainer. The climbing hall in Bad Ischl offers at nearly 800m² climbing fun for every ability level. The bistro area, which is adjoining to the climbing hall, invites for a cosy get-together afterwards.

5th day: Optional - A night in the mountains at Goisererhütte or individual organized day
Hiking to the Goisererhütte: ~ 6 km, 4 hrs, difference in altitude á 1083 m / â 10 m
The short but steep ascent to the Goisererhütte mountain lodge is well worth the effort. Once at the lodge you can explore further to the summit of Mount Kalmberg or the “Kalmoos church”, a cave in which Protestants attended services in secret during the Counterreformation.

6th day: Rest day
When you decide for an overnight at Goisererhütte mountain lodge you descent back to the valley after a hearty breakfast.
Today a trip to Bad Ischl or Lake Wolfgangsee would be definitely worthwhile. Overnight stay in Bad Goisern.
 
7th day: Guided tour through Koppenbrüller Cave, approx. 1,5 hours
The water-bearing Koppenbrüller Cave is located in the valley and can be accessed via a short walk along a secure trail by the charming Koppentraun river. During the 1 hour cave tours, guests gain insight into the development of the caves and into the underground waterways of the inside of the Dachstein. Pathways secured against flooding mean that guests can visit in safety, even in bad weather!

  • *Hut sleeping bag: blankets are available in the huts; necessary but mandatory is only a lightweight cotton/silk sleeping bag liner
  • On most huts, card payment is not possible. Take enough cash with you for food and drinks.
  • Due to their location, not all huts can offer running water, hot water or showers. In some cases there is also no flushing system in the toilets.
