At Easter 2024, LehárTHEATERosternwill present a classic for the Capital of Culture year: Der Bauer als Millionär: directed by Charlotte Leitner, who has already worked with the book and in the ensemble several times, we will present a traditional performance in a new guise three times for our Ischl audience and guests of the city in the sixth year of our existence.

Romantic fairy tale with song by Ferdinand Raimund
Artistic director: Dr Wolfgang Gerold

30 to 31 March 2024
Venue: Kongress & TheaterHaus Bad Ischl, Kurhausstr. 8
Duration approx. 2.5 h

Among other things, you will experience the famous scene of the youth's farewell with the touching duet "Brüderlein fein" as well as the ashes song of the former "farmer as millionaire". The charm of Raimund's original is dressed up with a modern framework story: the fate of a mother who, having had to foster her illegitimate daughter as a minor, wants to find her again and make her happy. This is reminiscent of the fate of Lottchen, daughter of the fairy Lacrimosa. Her foster father, Fortunatus Wurzel, who has become rich through a treasure of envy, wants to force her to marry a wealthy man, but her heart belongs to the poor fisherman Karl. Lacrimosa asks her friends in the fairy world for help. This is the only way to free the disgraced fairy from her banishment. With humanity and contentment, envy and hatred can be prevented from doing their destructive work, as they also have Karl in their clutches, but he - like Fortunatus Wurzel - ultimately renounces the wealth he has gained through deceit and thus wins back his Lottchen.
