Travel through 25,000 years in 60 minutes and 99 steps!
The cellar was owned by the Ischl brewery until 1908. The building is known as the "Cafe Casino" and came into the possession of the Schmalnauer family in 1971. This so-called "Grieblkeller" is a 500-year-old natural cellar with a total area of 380 m². The original cellar was even larger, as it was connected to the neighbouring cellars. Carved out of sandstone conglomerate by hand, the cellar served as a large refrigerator for the citizens of Bad Ischl and especially for the "Alt Ischlerbräu", as the temperature was a constant 10 °C in summer and winter. The remarkable medieval structure of the vaulted cellar is still largely original. Carts could easily drive around the natural stone pillars to get back outside. Even today, the traces of the cellar being knocked out are still clearly visible.
Duration of the tour: approx. 50 minutes (depending on how busy it is)
